Warm food during Winter for healthy living

Warm food during Winter for healthy living

The transition from Autumn to Winter is that time of the year when you may find yourself hibernating a little more. The thought of spending a whole Sunday at home in front of the fire, with something delicious simmering on the stove seems far more appealing that socialising.

There’s a good reason for this! Ayurveda “knowledge of life” is one of the world’s oldest systems of healing, originating in India over 3000 years ago.

Ayurveda teaches us that Winter is the time for us to ‘go within’ and self reflect. As a result, the best foods to eat as the weather gets cooler are warming grounding foods which balance our energy and support our digestive system.

Winter is the time of year when we can become prone to digestive disturbances such as irritable bowel and constipation. It is also the time of year when we are more likely to get sick – and as your Naturopath inevitably will tell you, your health always starts in your gut!

So, what should you be eating?

As a rule, cooked food is best. While salads and green smoothies are great, they are better suited to the warmer weather.

For Winter, think homemade and slow-cooked soups, stews, casseroles and curries - nourishing, hearty, filling and easy to digest. True comfort food and extremely delicious!

Come and speak to us for some tried-and-true winter recipes. We have many delicious ideas to share. We will ensure you stay warm, grounded and nourished all winter long!
